Tokyo Expressway – the start – dougalf's slot racing circuits

I love the ancient Scalextric Le Mans start but sadly digital track still doesn’t (need to) recreate it so I just had to built my own. It turned out to be a bit bigger and um slightly more complex 😝

Hopefully the arrow annotations help. Only the red and green lanes are ‘done’. Cars go from right to left. The level track coming out at the front is the underground carpark / slip road where the cars begin the race. The red lane is easy. It just runs alongside before using a digital pitlane to join the circuit. It’s in pure analog mode, nothing special going on there.

Red lane is elevated over the green slip road using 2 bits of beautiful Lego engineering that are super solid and fit snuggly into Scalextric’s own ready made support sockets under the track. You can get a clearer view of these towards the back of the photo. They give enough space for a second pit lane joiner so the car starting on the green track can go under the red and join up with the main circuit. Notice how the green lane dips down sooner that the red. After the start the pit lanes play no further part in the race.

The other 2 lanes are just mirrors of these. You can maybe get a better idea of the green lane by looking at the cyan which doesn’t have the 4th lane elevated over it yet.

To add to the confusion I ran out of single lane track so needed to use some standard 2 lane pieces. You should just ignore the very inner and outer lanes of the starting track, they aren’t even powered.
